Waterford is sponsoring two opportunities to make Christmas happier for needy Goshen families: (1) Free Christmas Shopping Day, coordinated by retired teachers of Goshen, is collecting “gently loved” toys, books, games, dolls, Lego bricks, movies, sports equipment, video games, stuffed animals, and craft items for needy Goshen families with children from infants to 12 years of age. Parents will then be invited to College Mennonite Church to “shop” for free toys and books on Saturday, Dec. 12. Collection boxes are under the mailboxes.

(2) Waterford Elementary School is again having a food drive for needy families in the community. Like last year, the school is looking for these specific food items: soup, ramen noodles, corn, green beans, peaches, applesauce, ravioli, stew, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, cake mix and frosting, crackers, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and sauce, and pancake mix and syrup. Cash contributions are also accepted.
