Pillars Along the Way

Waterford Mennonite Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary Oct. 9-11, 2009, using the theme Pillars Along the Way. Former attenders and any other interested individuals are invited to join the congregation in remembering the past, celebrating the present, and looking to the future. Anyone wishing to receive updates via mail or email should contact the church by phone or e-mail.

In the Old Testament, patriarchs noted and marked significant places and events where they experienced God by erecting pillars of stone. The people of God could retrace these events not only in memory and oral history, but also by retracing their steps to visit the actual pillars.

In 1959, Waterford Mennonite Church was recognized as a conference congregation. In 2009, we will remember and celebrate these 50 years by retracing some of our steps, and by marking some of the pillars along the way.

The Agape Sunday School Class will be hosting a Hog Heaven hog roast meal. There is no charge, but please register. Waterford members can register using the sign-up sheet by the anniversary bulletin board.

We welcome Peter Wiebe as the featured speaker for this evening worship service. Peter was the pastor of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church when, as a result of their continued growth, a group of people began meeting in the Bethany Christian Schools building. This group became Waterford Mennonite Church.

Former pastors and others will share their pillar experiences – stories and memories – from their times at Waterford Mennonite Church. As time allows, open sharing will also be encouraged. Nurture classes will be available for children preschool through grade five.

                        Stanley Green has been invited to share with us. Stanley, executive director of Mennonite Mission Network, and his wife, Ursula, are members of Waterford Mennonite Church.
